The Bomb
The bomb is a giant un-manned tube. The tube is originally the brainchild of Babylon freefly. The bomb is a symbolic tube that has only been flown a hand full of times. The first time it was flown was in Empuriabrava, Spain 1998.
Ten years later, it has risen from the ashes. It consists of a six-meter tube, with a plastic container suspended beneath it. The plastic container was originally filled with weight and water, while the modern design contains only weight.
Once the bomb was carefully prepared after days of work (Thanks to Vince Reffet) it was carefully lifted into the plane. On run in, a specific spot is essential and away she goes, the bomb was flying for the first time in ten years.
After the formation had broken off the bomb continued flying until 1000ft where the FXC fires, this releases a carefully engineered harness from the plastic container. Here the tube acts as a pilot chute and deploys a round reserve, which is packed inside the plastic container. At this point, there are two parts, the tube/harness and the bomb. Because of the relatively low deployment altitude, the bomb was fairly-easily spotted and landed safely.
We strongly recommend you do not try to build a bomb and remember dropping bombs is not cool. These jumps were done with meticulous planning, preparation and a great understanding of local weather, winds and the landing area.
